An Amazing Night!

Sunday was an amazing night at “Pure Imagination”. Dawnet, Lead Event Planner for A Piece of Cake Events was asked to be a part of a wedding décor and preview show called “Pure Imagination”. This was a one-stop experience featuring the latest wedding styles and décor trends created by the top Wedding Planners and Designers in the area. Each Wedding Planner was given a theme to design. There were individual vignettes which, A Piece of Cake Events vignette theme was “Cultural Suburbia". Dawnet decided to design an Asian inspired theme with an elaborate elegant twist. A Beautiful Wedding

Just one day before Mother's Day, Carly and Ricky said "I DO". It all started last year when I coordinated the groom's sister's wedding. His fiancee Carly, was amazed of the detailed coordination. She told me, "we are getting married next year, I will contact you soon".

Many Months passed. One day I received an unexpected email from Carly! I was very excite to hear from her! "I told you I would contact you", she said.

I was very honored to have a part in their wedding. The day was beautiful with a "beach" theme. The decor` showed the personally of the bride and groom with shells, starfish and sand, it truly made you feel like you were on a beach. The bride was gorgeous and the 200 guest were amazed of the flawless day!

A Wonderful Day at the Wedding Walk

Yesterday was a fablous day at the Wedding Walk of Tacoma! We had over 60 premeire vendors and 6 venues. Each venue had a different theme and design. A Piece of Cake Events, was at the Washington State History Museum. The decor` included a collection of spring colors with shades of pink, green, orange and peach. We transformed three floors in the Washington State History Museum to give the brides an idea of what their ceremony and reception can look like. Inside each venue were premiere vendors such as a DJ's, Baker's, Caterer's and Florist, just to name a few. We would like to give a special thanks to Trendy Events for asking us to show our skills and assist with putting on the Wedding Walk. Also, thank you to Blitz & Co. for the flowers, Wallflowers for providing the pictures and AA Party Rentals for the rental items.

Beautiful Bride, Beautiful Barn!

This past weekend was a blast! A Piece of Cake Events had a wedding at the Pickering Barn in Issaquah. Our bride hired us to help out on her big day as “Day-Of” coordinators, and couldn’t thank us enough. “This was perfect!” she said—which described both the ceremony and reception.

The wedding began early in the afternoon and lasted well into the evening. As requested, we were there the entire time to make sure the ceremony and reception was set up exactly how the bride and groom expected. It was a new location for us, being a barn—but this was not your typical barn! It was very contemporary, a beautiful facility.

Of course, with Christmas just around the corner, the decorations were a beautiful sage green, gold, and white. The bride and her wedding party looked absolutely stunning. Everything went according to plan, and the bride and groom were so thankful that A Piece of Cake Events was there.

A Candellight Ceremony And A Stunning Reception

We had a very special wedding here at A Piece of Cake Events…it was truly one-of-a-kind. The bride wanted something unique and special for her flowers; especially the décor at the church. Her fiancé liked the idea of having an arbor at the altar---which would look like an arch of flowers above their heads. Well, the bride took that idea one step further and came up with two 12 foot high curly willow and dendrobium orchid “trees” whose branches almost touched over head, forming an arch with long branches of white orchids. Her florist hung orbs of glowing candles from the branches behind the couple to echo the candlelight ceremony. The wedding colors were purple, silver, and white; so the aisle had a white runner and was smothered in thousands of purple and white rose petals. Along the sides of the aisle the bride took tall glass trumpet vases, turned them upside-down to form pillars of varying heights and placed candles on top with more rose petals surrounding them. There were trio arrangements of submerged stock (in white, dark purple, and lavender) with floating candles in the windows, and the only lights on at the ceremony were two spotlights where the bride and groom stood and one on the harpist, who played throughout the ceremony.

The reception at the Des Moines Yacht Club was just as breathtaking. The bride and her aunt made their own centerpieces, echoing the mammoth trees from the church they took silver curly willow branches and white phaelinopsis orchids and placed them in tall, clear flower towers. The head table featured a floral runner of mostly white flowers along each wing of the table that met in the center with an arrangement of various purple and white flowers, cascading down the front of the table. We made the champagne toast memorable by adding a blackberry to every glass, fitting it with the color scheme. After a sweet first dance, the bride danced with her father to “A Song for My Daughter” and made everyone in the room cry—but the best was saved for last: as the bride and groom exited the reception under and arch of 3 foot long sparklers held by their family and friends, they were met by the father of the bride’s yacht, covered in white fairy lights and ready to sail them off into the sunset.

We will never forget such a gorgeous wedding, or how happy the bride and groom were as they thanked us for our help and left for their honeymoon in St. Lucia!

A Fantastic Wedding Planned in Under Two Months!

I had a wedding this past Saturday that I am dying to tell you about. It’s really quite an amazing story!

The bride and groom came to A Piece of Cake Events on August 30th of 2010—with the desire to get married on October 23, 2010! This meant that we had a little under TWO MONTHS to plan the entire wedding…and it turned out amazing!

Everything was simply perfect. The wedding was an international wedding: the bride is from China and the Groom is from France. Their guests flew from all over the world to witness what turned out to be a beautiful wedding. The ceremony and reception was at the Woodmark hotel, overlooking gorgeous Lake Washington.

The bride put her full trust in A Piece of Cake Events. We planned and designed the entire wedding, each minute detail was our responsibility. She knew she was in good hands, and would make comments like, "You're my wedding planner, I trust you.”

There was not one aspect of this wedding that we did not design. The bride and groom were so awe-struck when they saw how beautiful their wedding was. We received dozens of "thank you’s!" all night long. I will never forget this night, or how I planned a wedding in under two months that turned out to be…a Piece of Cake!

The bride and groom benefited so much from our complete coordination wedding package, and we’re hoping we can give the same outstanding service and results to you!

Oh The Things We Can Do….

Last weekend we had a wedding that went from ordinary—to extraordinary!

Held at a golf course in Lacey, the bride wanted an outdoor wedding on the green. Sadly, however, when we set up the rehearsal, the weather forecast was rain, rain, rain. We made the best of it and set up the ceremony in the beautiful restaurant where the reception was to be held. Everything was in place on the wedding day when suddenly the sun came out!

The bride was ecstatic: now she could have the outdoor wedding she had always dreamed of! We at A Piece of Cake Events were proud to make it happen for her. So at sunset the bride and her father walked over a bridge and onto the golf green, fulfilling her every wedding fantasy. She was radiant in a white dress with red detail, matching her wedding colors and the fall motif. We spread fall leaves and rose petals on the white aisle runner—making a stunning contrast on the green grass. The reception followed after at the restaurant which we decked out in lights and draping, and the small, intimate wedding was enjoyed by all.

Once again, we worked with one of our favorite photographers, Latasha Hayne (http://www.photomelatasha.com) who supplied this picture of the happy wedding party.

This wedding served to show that A Piece of Cake Events is wholly devoted to making your every wedding wish a reality—no matter what!

Summer Wrap-Up Blog

It’s been a busy summer for A Piece of Cake Events!

We’ve had the pleasure of working several weddings for several wonderful brides, including a wedding out of state in Clark County, Idaho. We did all the planning long-distance(the bride and groom were from Texas!), and It was a five hour drive, but I was so glad to do it! We had a blast! The bride and groom had decided on a beautiful outdoor wedding in Swallows Park, and even the weather cooperated to make the day absolutely magical! I love to travel, and this wedding was a pure pleasure to coordinate.

We also had a stunning outdoor wedding at Pacific Lutheran University—the bride and groom were married in an amphitheatre with flower arrangements marking each of the stone steps all the way down to where they were encircled by yellow rose petals, exchanging their own written vows before their guests—a beautiful moment that captivated everyone present.

We’d like to give a little attention to a close friend of ours, a talented photographer named Amber Clarke (you can visit her website at: http://www.amberclarkphotography.com/). We have had the pleasure of working with her recently, and her photos are amazing—truly a treasure for each couple she shoots.

We'd also like to credit Latasha Haynes from Latasha Haynes Photography (http://www.photomelatasha.com/) for the gorgeous photo we are displaying of our most recent wedding. She has worked with us closely in the past (we've even mentioned her in a previous post!) and always does a fabulous job.

Both of these ladies are tremendously talented, and we are honored to have been able to work with them.

A Lovely Wedding at Lake Wilderness Lodge

Yesterday, we had a challenge on our hands:

A wedding for 120 people, and only two hours to set up!

Thankfully, we had our new coordinator, Kristen, to help us. She was a big help as the three of us worked hard to decorate Lake Wilderness Lodge for Kat and Corey’s wedding. Although the skies were gloomy it didn’t rain, and the outside ceremony turned out just lovely. The bride and groom had written their own vows, and it was hard not to get emotional as they declared their love for each other.

After everything was all set up and the guests were happily taking Polaroids of themselves as a kind of “guest book”, we were able to relax and enjoy a homey, country-type wedding. The bride was stunning in her beautiful white dress…with her hot pink Manolos peeking out from underneath! Everybody had a good time dancing to the Macarana and eating a delicious cake baked by our good friend Jacqui of Jacqui’s Cakes. The bride and groom couldn’t have been happier, and all the guests couldn’t stop raving about how “effortless” everything looked.

It looked challenging, but it turned out to be….a piece of cake!

80's Birthday Bash!

What a night we had last Saturday! We went all the way back to the 80’s in a themed (complete with costumes!) surprise 30^th birthday party—and yes, the birthday boy was incredibly surprised when he walked into a dimly lit room with forty of his friends and family waiting to wish him a happy birthday!

This was the first major event that I (Kimberly) worked on by myself for A Piece of Cake Events, and I wanted every detail to be perfect. I’m happy to say that according to our happy clients, I succeeded!

The party was held at the elegant Hotel Murano in Tacoma. I set the room too look like a chic dinner party from 1980 (the year the birthday boy was born). I used these awesome black, stretchy chair covers to give the room a polished look, and the tables were set with black satin cloths, silver chargers, black satin napkins, sequined runners, and for the favor—a single sequined glove! It was our homage to the late King of Pop, and the guests went wild with them. We had the incredibly talented Latasha Hayes set up a “fun booth” (think photo booth, but with silly hats, umbrellas, and other props for people to be photographed with). It was a great icebreaker and made for some memorable photos, and I don’t know who had more fun with it—the adults or the children! A Complete Production

Bertina and Alex’s wedding was planned by A Piece of Cake Events from the very beginning of their engagement down to the details in our hand-tied bridesmaid’s bouquets (which were a lot of fun to put together) Although we started planning for this wedding at the end of March, everything turned out so perfectly that it seemed like we had been planning for over a year. The wedding was amazing: the décor was beautiful and sweet, the groom was charming, the bride gleamed with joy, and the guests were awe-struck by the banquet hall where we held the reception.

The ceremony was at Pacific Christian Center, and was delicately decorated in red, black, and white. While I was setting up there, Kim learned how to tie chair sashes at the reception center near Chamber Bay—not an easy task, but well worth it; sometimes chair covers with their sashes make the biggest difference between an ordinary reception and an extraordinary one.

Although the day started out dreary and overcast by the time we reached the reception hall the sun was peaking out from behind the clouds and illuminating the backdrop of the mountains and Puget Sound. We could not have asked for better weather.

I’ve included pictures so you can see how a complete coordination of the wedding production from A Piece of Cake Events can look—but really, you would just have to ask the bride and groom, or one of the guests, to be told that it was a magnificent day and one to remember.

We're Making Some Changes at A Piece of Cake Events!

Hello to all! Here at A Piece of Cake Events some changes are being made…take a look around the website to see our biggest changes! We now have this blog, which we will keep full of fun stories about the events we facilitated as well as use it to update you on any other changes that will be made.

Also, we have a new addition to the A Piece of Cake family: Kimberly Neil, my new assistant. She started interning with me this spring and she was just too good to let go! We’ll be keeping her around for a long while.

Picture Perfect Photography Launch Party

I just threw a launch party for the amazingly talented photographer, Latasha Haynes. She just sent me an e-mail thanking me, stating, “I must say that May 2nd was one of the top 10 most amazing nights of my life”.

It all began back in February when Latasha told me she wanted to throw a combination birthday/launch party in May for her new business. I told her that I could not think of a better location than the Hotel Murano. We discussed plans, and I envisioned a very elegant, fun night where the guests would walk in to see her photographs displayed around the room with a live band playing amidst a candle-lit background.

Well, everything we imagined together turned into reality—although not without some hard work!

My day started at 1:00pm picking up the cake which we had specially made with Latasha’s new logo decorating the top in icing. It looked spectacular—almost too good to eat!. I headed then to the Hotel to do set-up. I have to say that once it was underway, the guests said they felt it was like being in Hollywood at a glitzy party for some young starlet. We had a photo booth set up for the guests to play in and take their own pictures and there were several giveaways of photography sessions and t-shirts as party favors.

We were able to raise some of the money Latasha needed to buy a new lens for her camera with this creative gimmick of a ceramic piggy bank on which we wrote, “Help make me fat!” Everyone thought it was hilarious and contributed, raising a little over $600.00!

Even though I was working the entire time, I had one of the best nights of my life. The atmosphere was a perfect combination of the elegant-chic that I had planned for as well as simple joy from the revelers and from Latasha herself. It was truly the party of a lifetime, as Latasha said-- “That night will definitely go down in the history books!

Having A Ball at Georgetown Ballroom

On May 8^th, I facilitated a wedding at a venue I had never been to before: Georgetown Ballroom in Seattle. A fun and funky red-bricked dancehall, bar and courtyard lit by different colored paper lanterns of all shapes and sizes, the ballroom was definitely suited to this fun, young couple who had won my services in a drawing.

I arrived with a long list of things to do, and between setting up tables and directing vendors I was very busy—but not too busy to enjoy such a unique union. They had their dog at the ceremony, and she ran around and entertained the guests while they sat outside sipping cocktails prior to the vows. Instead of a cake, this couple had “the scooping of the ice cream” and towards the end of the night, even a hot dog stand (which was perfect to feed the guests after all their dancing)! This was the most relaxed, comfortable wedding I have ever planned--a stress free, genuine good time!

A Beautiful Day at Echo Bay

On May 1st I did a wedding at the gorgeous Echo Bay Chapel on Fox Island. The chapel overlooks Puget Sound and the sunlight was in the perfect position illuminating the waves. Nothing could have looked more beautiful---except for the bride, of course! Even the flowers—hydrangeas and roses—paled in comparison to her beauty. She wore a long, flowing white Grecian-style gown and was attended by her matron of honor (her older sister) and her junior bridesmaid (her niece).

However, the most memorable site was the ring-bearer: at one year old and dressed in the tiniest tux, his boutonniere was almost as big as he was! He was the son of the bride and groom, and it was so sweet to see him included, waddling down the aisle, happy to be the center of attention for a short while. The guests almost died from the cuteness.

The reception that followed was at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club, another great location for this spring wedding. The love between the bride and groom was evident, and everyone had a fabulous time (including myself!).
