80's Birthday Bash!

What a night we had last Saturday! We went all the way back to the 80’s in a themed (complete with costumes!) surprise 30th birthday party—and yes, the birthday boy was incredibly surprised when he walked into a dimly lit room with forty of his friends and family waiting to wish him a happy birthday!

This was the first major event that I (Kimberly) worked on by myself for A Piece of Cake Events, and I wanted every detail to be perfect. I’m happy to say that according to our happy clients, I succeeded!

The party was held at the elegant Hotel Murano in Tacoma. I set the room too look like a chic dinner party from 1980 (the year the birthday boy was born).  I used these awesome black, stretchy  chair covers to give the room a polished look, and the tables were set with black satin cloths, silver chargers, black satin napkins, sequined runners, and for the favor—a single sequined glove! It was our homage to the late King of Pop, and the guests went wild with them. We had the incredibly talented Latasha Hayes set up a “fun booth” (think photo booth, but with silly hats, umbrellas, and other props for people to be photographed with). It was a great icebreaker and made for some memorable photos, and I don’t know who had more fun with it—the adults or the children!  For information on how to have a fun booth at your next event, go to  www.photomelatasha.com.  Our awesome DJ, Mike with After Dark Entertainment, played the top hits of the 80’s and emceed a moon walk competition.  If you’re in need of an excellent DJ  (and I mean excellent!) you can get a hold of him at djmike@gmail.com.

All in all, it was a great time for everyone—myself included—and from what I hear, it was a party the birthday boy will never, ever forget.
